The Hate U Give is a great novel written by Angie Thomas. It has won several awards and was the New York Best Selling Book. A sixteen-year black girl named Starr attends an all-white private school. Starr becomes present in the national news after witnessing her childhood friend (Khalil) get shoot by police for no reason. She speaks out about the shooting in public way.

Illegal 

I was given Illegal by Eoin Colfer and Andrew Donkin as my lit group book. Illegal is about a boy named Ebo who left his home in Ghana to find his brother. Along the way of his journey, he finds his brother and they travel together in a group of people to Europe to go find his sister. Throughout the story, they come across many life-threating issues and are determined to get through them all. I recommend this book to you if you like graphic novels and books about journeys. 

Genius Hour 

   My genius hour topic is vaping. Vaping had a huge outbreak in 2014. Over forty-four million people in the US vape as of 2018. It is estimated that in the year  2021 if something doesn't change fifty-five million people are estimated to be vaping only in the US. Thirty-three people have died from vaping and that may not seem like a big number but that is a person's whole life gone because of an addiction to nicotine.
